Jesus used this method of communicating often during his earthly ministry, and many of the parables of Jesus are recorded in the Gospels. Some parables help us to understand spiritual things, and some are a little more cryptic. Many people believe that Jesus spoke in parables so that people would better understand spiritual things. This is not the case; Jesus tells us in Mark 4:10-13 that He spoke in parable so that people would NOT understand spiritual things unless God revealed it to them.
Mark 4:10-13
And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that “they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.” And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?
Jesus relied upon the work of the Holy Spirit to reveal to the disciples the spiritual meanings of the parables that He used. God has placed many of these (along with the explanations) into the Gospels so that we too might have access to the spiritual truths that the disciples learned.
My prayer is that this study of the parables will help you to see and hear God’s truths for us today. This is not my work, but the work of God through His Spirit in you.
Matthew 13:15 tells us that “… they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.”
Below is the list of Parables that we will cover in this study.
